Leeds Airport Information

Originally Yeadon Aerodrome, Leeds Bradford International Airport, began life in 1931. It included club flying and training flights on 60 acres of grassland along the Bradford Harrogate Road. The airport was extended in 1935. In 1936 609 Squadron, Royal Auxiliary air Force was formed at the Aerodrome. Civil flghts stoped in 1934 and began again in 1947. The first daily service to both London and Dublin started in 1960.

Central northern England's regional hub, Leeds Bradford International Airport serves more than two million passengers a year. Situated between Bradford, Harrogate and Leeds, the single-terminal airport hosts direct flights to numerous cities in the UK and Europe via national and foreign airlines and budget carriers. From budget airlines such as Bmi baby and Ryanair to KLM, eight carriers operate from Leeds Bradford. Check-in desks are located near the main entrance and Departures is situated upstairs. Arrivals for domestic and international flights is located on the ground floor.

The airport offers several services and facilities, with ATMs available throughout the terminal and moneychangers in Arrivals, Baggage Claim and at Check-in. The duty-free shop offers a wide array of tax-free goods for those leaving the Euro zone and WH Smith stores can be found before and after security. Food courts are located on both floors, in addition to a sandwich bar and a traditional pub. The airport also offers postal services, baby-changing rooms, a children’s play area and a games arcade as well as accommodation for disabled persons.

Two executive lounges in Departures cater to business travelers, offering fax, telephone and photocopying services as well as a bar. Additionally, the Departures Lounge has a Wi-Fi connection for internet access.

Inclusive holiday tour flights on behalf of Thomson Holidays commenced in 1976 with flights to the Iberian Peninsula by Britannia Airways. Destinations served by Leeds/Bradford include the following; Algarve, Austria, Bulgaria, Corfu, Costa Blanca, Costa Del Sol, Costa Dorada, Cyprus, France, Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria, Ibiza, Italy, Lanzarote, Madeira, Majorca, Malta, Menorca, Tenerife, Turkey and one of the newer destinations Zante.

Getting to Leeds/Bradford Airport

Leeds Airport has one of the best set of public transport links for passengers to get to.

  • Rail - Leeds City Railway Station on Bradford Interchange. When using rail connections through Leeds City Station you should allow up to 20 minutes to transfer from your train to the MatroConnect 757 bus service.
  • By Car - The airport is signposted on all major roads over a wide area, including the M1 and M62 motorways and the Yorkshire section of the A1.

  • By Taxi - The Airport Taxi Association (ATA) is formed by Streamline, Telecabs and City Cabs .   • By Coach or Bus -

    • Metro Connect 737 operates a service every 30 mins from Mon to Sat and hourly on Sun linking Bradford, Shipley and Guiseley with Leeds Bradford International Airport. With connections to the airport for air passengers arriving at Bradford Interchange, Bradford Forster Square and Shipley train stations.
    • MetroConnect 757 operates a service that links Otley, Leeds City bus station and Leeds train station with Leeds Airport. Running every 30 mins between peak hours of 0800 and 1800 Monday to Saturday and an hourly service during off-peak hours and all day Sunday. The service calls at all Metro stops en-route from Leeds and Otley to the Airport.
    • The "Bus 2 Jet" 767 operates a service that links Harrogate city centre, Oatlands, Pannal, Huby and Pool in Wharfedale with Leeds Bradford International Airport. The service runs every 90 mins between 06.15 and 22.45.

    Pparking at Leeds Bradford International Airport

    Leeds Bradford International's short-term car park is located near the airport's entrance and is ideal for passenger pick-ups and drop-offs. Long-term parking is available for minimum stays of five days and a courtesy bus runs between the car park and the terminal. Parking for disabled persons is set in the nearby Short-Term lot. Assistance from the car park to the terminal is available for disabled persons, but it is necessary to notify the airport before your arrival.
